Show n Shine 2011 Report

SHOW & SHINE, 2011
It was decided at our September meeting that we would have our Show & Shine in conjunction
with the Claremont Girl Guide’s Trash to Treasure Car and Bike Show to be held on the Claremont
Village Green. We had been invited to this event in previous years but it always coincided with our
own Show or was too close to it.

We met prior to entering the ground so that we could be parked as a group and left some spaces
for the Jackson Volkswagen display models, an Ambulance Private Ambulance and Nino’s
Formula Vee. A couple of the members returned with Nino to Bocchino Motors to pick them up
and drive back to Claremont.

It was sunny when we arrived and we all wandered around and checked out the stalls around the
ground and some of the other car displays. There were cake & sweet stalls and coffee for sale in
the Girl Guides Hall which was welcome as the weather turned very cold and showery. This new
building was officially opened during the day with many politicians and Glenorchy City Council
members in attendance along with Girl Guide officials and Girl Guides dressed in uniforms from
earlier times up to the present day.

After lunch it was time to announce our trophies and the prize winners were:

1st Prize Patricia Curran 1955 Beetle

2nd Prize Paul Muszalik 1971 Karmann Ghia

3rd Prize Wayne Bennett 1963 Karmann Ghia

Bocchino Motors Prize Simon Stanbridge 1976 Beetle

Shannons Prize Kerren Murtagh 2005 Mk V Golf GTI

Shannons Prize Alex Damen 1990 Transporter

VWAT Encouragement Glen Morris 1970 Beetle

Before we left the grounds, Nino and Peter and I presented a $50 donation from our club to Mrs
Robyn Midson the Girl Guide Leader, which was gratefully received.

Secretary’s report

Secretary’s Report

I hope you have all had a very happy and safe Christmas and New Year.

We had 12 events on our calendar in 2011 including a BBQ, the inaugural Longford Revival, picnic
& fun day, Picnic @ Ross, drive & lunch at Richmond and Gretna Green, MG Historic Race Meet
at Baskerville, a couple of surprise breakfasts which are still popular, our annual Show & Shine at
Claremont Village Green and Christmas Dinner at Wrest Point. A couple of events were cancelled
due to either wet weather of lack of attendance and we had lower than usual numbers at our
meetings last year.

After discussions at our meeting in September it was decided that we did not have enough support
to run the next Bug-In and we have already advised all other state based clubs that Tasmania will
not be holding a Bug-In in 2013.

A big thank you to those members who participated in our events throughout 2011. We also thank
our sponsors for their continued support of the club: Bocchino Motors, Jackson Volkswagen and
Shannons Insurance. I would also like to thank Aeshlie for her contribution with the Newsletter and
Simon for his continuing work with our website.

Our membership for 2011 was 38 down from 59 last year. Renewal of membership is now
due and your invoice along with a Membership Application/Renewal are enclosed. Please
enclose the completed Membership Application/Renewal with your payment and forward to
Volkswagen Association of Tasmania, 89 Albert Rd, Moonah 7009. We need this form to
keep our records up to date.

We encourage members to forward a photo of your car/s to websitecoordinator@vwtas.org or post
in to club HQ to be published on the club website.

We have a BBQ event to start the year off which is published in the Newsletter and I hope you
enjoy your time with the club again this year.

Welcome back members, new and old! A great year has passed and exciting times ahead for 2012!

Most of you will know that I am still on top of the world following my win of the Tasmanian
Formula Vee 1200c State Championship in 2011 – after 11years I have reached my goal and have
more desire than ever to continue racing!

A special thank you to our committee and members for all your hard work in 2011! The events and
convoy’s would not happen nor be as enjoyable without your involvement!

I hope you all had a great Christmas and a safe start to the New Year!

After a busy few years I am looking forward to spending more time on the club this year as I hope
you are!

 God bless you All!
